Our Estate
The Tasting Room
Our tasting room is a renovated 1870′s bunkhouse used during the mining era of the 19th century and subsequent farm era of the 20th century. The outside walls are constructed of incense-cedar which are full of holes filled with acorns. Why the holes and acorns you ask? Red-headed acorn woodpeckers, of course! One of nature’s first farmers.
Step inside and you’ll find our fun-loving staff waiting for you at our rustic tasting bar. When good weather allows, we pour wine outside, where you can enjoy the view of the scenic Cosumnes River Canyon.

History
Since the mid-1800′s, Zinfandel has been enjoyed as a table grape, as well as a wine grape. Its origin is still questionable, however, DNA research suggests that the structure of Zinfandel is similar to the Primitivo grape. Story Winery & Vineyards has 40 acres of Zinfandel vines, some of which pre-date 1900.
The Mission grapes were introduced to Amador County during the Gold Rush of 1849. Spanish Missionaries originally brought the grape to California in the mid-1700’s to make communion wine at the various Missions. Settlers were given clippings to start their own vineyards, thus the name “Mission” grape. A hearty and resistant grape, it yields a very soft and earthy wine. Our Mission grapes produce four wines: our dry, “Red Mission,” a Mission rosé labeled “Miss Rose,” a blend of Mission and Zinfandel labeled “Miss Zin,” and our Mission Port.
We invite your to explore the Shenandoah Valley AVA and visit our winery at the ‘end of the road.’ Experience our unique Mission Wines, our vineyard-designated Zinfandels, as well as our other varietals and Champagne.
